Strength In Spades

Growing up, sports were a big part of my life. I played soccer for 14 years and loved every moment of it. Unfortunately my first injury kept me from the sport. It was tough to deal with, and as the years passed my fitness routine had become non existent. I had a baby , got married and started my own business.  Life got busier and over time I really started packing on the pounds.

2 years ago at the age of 30, I was at my all time highest weighing in at 300 lbs. I was in shock and asking myself “ how did you even get here?” I was always in pain because of my weight. I got to the point where I hated looking at myself and the only way I would fix that was if I did something about it.

A friend of mine shared me with that she had joined a bootcamp class and invited me to join her. Even though I was terrified because I had never done a bootcamp class, I was at a point in my life where I was sick and tired of being sick and tired. I thought to myself “What do you have to lose other than the weight?” I walked into the studio terrified, but walked out angry with myself for letting my weight get out of control. With the support of my family and new friends at the studio I stuck with it.

I made a commitment to myself that I wasn’t going to give up easily. My life was busy, but I managed to make working out part of my life style. Working out 5 days a week and eating cleaner and less processed foods helped me start to feel better about myself. Today, I feel stronger and I feel like an athlete again. I’m down 62 pounds and counting!

It’s been a lifestyle change for me. Working out is a huge stress reliever. Some of the best days I’ve had at the gym were the days I was doubting myself the most. A huge part of my success is because of the people I work out with, they are like a second family to me. Their support and encouragement is what keeps me fighting each day.  It feels good to know people are cheering you on.  It brings me back to the days I was playing out on the field with my teammates. I get that same feeling from my studio which is why I keep going.

If your struggling with your weight or you just want to get healthier,  find something you love then connect with like minded people because they are going to help you get through the tough days.  You’ll remember why you started in the first place, to be better than you were yesterday. Move your body, change your life📷

There's great freedom in moving and I'm not only moving for myself, but I'm moving for others. Movement for Freedom is important to me and to the life of the girls at My Refuge House.
